Further Payroll Tax Relief for Victoria: COVID Support

In response to the second outbreak of coronavirus, Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas has announced an expansion of payroll tax relief for some Victorian businesses.

As we advised earlier in the COVID-19 crisis, the Victorian Government had deferred payroll tax for the first quarter of 2020/21 financial year for businesses that had a payroll of up to $3m.

That has now been both expanded to include eligible businesses that have a payroll of up to $10m and extended to through the first half of the 2020/21 financial year.

In the media release the eligibility criteria has not been detailed beyond the payroll amounts. As some of the other measures in the announcement related specifically to businesses impacted by the Stage 3 restrictions, we advise that businesses follow-up for further detail to check their eligibility.

As the coronavirus situation continues to impact the economy, I am staying across the updates in relation to payroll tax and will advise as any further measures are announced.
