QCCI has scored an enormous win against the Qld Commissioner of State Revenue by obtaining a $1m refund for payroll tax.
The case was decided after the Commissioner refused to register the QCCI as a charitable institution for tax purposes. The QCCI sought over $2.2m from the Commissioner for payroll tax paid from 2007 to 2012. Even though the Court found that the industry body was entitled to be registered it could not order the refund backdated beyond June 2010. However, it did order that the Commissioner refund QCCI close to $1m in payroll tax.
If you are a non-profit organisation and pay payroll tax you should check with us whether you should still be paying payroll tax. You might also be entitled to a refund of tax already paid.
